For at least 60 years (more if you count the Romans when Kilburn High Road was Watling Street) Kilburn has been a home for people who have had to leave their own country and create new lives in London, as well as the local English, of course.
FilmsatKilburnFestival was formed as part of the 4 year "Changing Communities" theme of the Kilburn Festival, itself part of the build up to the 2012 London Olympics, and as such, each year we seek to celebrate different Kilburn communities.
The first festival in 2008, described by Time Out as an "intriguing local film festival", was a relatively low key affair, comprising a screening at the Tricycle Cinema, a screening at Latin American House and our own Sunday Movie Brunch. But, though it was small, it was not short of quality. Headlined by a screening of What About Me? One Giant Leap, our Movie Brunch also featured 2 award nominated short films. *
FilmsatKilburnFestival 2009 greatly expanded on its first incarnation and has continued to endeavour to highlight the vibrant mix of the Kilburn community today.
While this year we focused on "a celebration of Kilburn's Irish Community" (Time Out), we also featured events showcasing the youth of Kilburn, the Ethiopian and Latin American communities, and the artists and filmmakers of Kilburn.
Please contact us if you would like to get involved.
